Halloween Preperations Part 2; Grocery and Thrift Store Discounts
Date:
October 25, 2006

In our last newsletter we discussed those discounts that can
be found at many of the national retail chains around the country. This week, we
look at the more general discounts that can be found at your local grocery and thrift
stores.
Within the Retail Category on our web site, you can find senior
discounts at various grocery stores nationwide. These discounts can range between
5% and 25% off the total bill. Some restrictions typically apply when using the
senior discounts at grocery stores. Products like alcoholic beverages, tobacco products,
gift cards or certificates may not be included in the discount. A grocery store’s
senior discounts are usually available on certain days of the week, although some
stores may have a senior day only once a month. The most common days for the discount
seem to be either on Tuesdays or Wednesdays. These discounts usually begin at age
55, but some may not start until 60 or 62.
If you plan to do some creative decorating or to make your own
costumes, you may also find discounts at many hobby and craft stores nationwide.
Like the grocery store discounts, they are usually for a certain day of the week,
but we have seen some local shops offer a senior discount every day. The discount
is usually for 10% off the total purchase and will typically not include sale items.
The age requirements for these discounts will most commonly begin at the age of
55, but some stores may offer the discount to seniors 50 and older, while other
may begin at 60 years of age.
We hope these discounts help save you some money this Halloween.
