Auto Services – Maintenance Discounts
Date: March 2, 2007
Author: David Smidt, SeniorDiscounts.com
Owning and operating a vehicle can be
costly these days. After insurance, regular maintenance and of course the high gas prices,
public transportation can start to look mighty good. But there are some services that provide
discounts for older adults to help ease the cost of owning a vehicle.
The most common discounts can be found at the
many national auto service centers across the country.
Many Jiffy Lube and Midas Auto Service locations,
and some Zip Lube and Valvoline Instant Oil Change locations, will offer a standard 10% discount on
labor and services. (The discount is not typically extended to parts.)
Since many of these locations are owned by
franchisees, the discounts, participation and age requirements can vary from store to store, so
it is best to call in advance or ask prior to receiving the work performed on your vehicle. Some
locations may offer more or less than the standard 10% discount and may not extend the discount to
parts. You may also notice differences in the age requirements for the senior discounts. Some apply
at only 50 years of age, others at 60 or 62.
There are also many local auto repair shops which
offer a senior discount. These discounts can include a percentage off parts, labor or both. Most
discounts will save you about 10%, but they can be substantial if you need a lot of work done. Age
requirements usually begin around the age of 55, but could be up to 65.
If you own a Saturn, many dealerships will also
offer a 10% discount on parts and service to seniors 55 and older.
Some regional tire stores also offer senior
discounts. For instance, STS Tire and Auto Centers on the East coast have a Sliver Club for people
55 and older. Members receive a 5% discount on tires, services, and accessories, including those
which are on sale.
Check your local car wash for discounts as well.
You will probably not find any senior discounts available at self service car wash stations, but
the full service stations may offer 10% off. SeniorDiscounts.com has many car washes that offer
discounts located on our web site.
If you have a crack or nick in your windshield
you may be able to receive 10% off on repairs. We have not seen many senior discounts for new
windshields, but there are some local windshield repair shops which offer discounts up to 10%.
There are even some car dealerships that will
provide senior discounts on the purchase of a new or used car. We have not found many of these
yet, but they do exist. It never hurts to ask.
Most of these discounts will not be highly
advertised so be sure to ask if they have a senior discount available before you have the service performed or purchase the parts.
