SeniorDiscounts: 2006 Year In Review
Date: January 5, 2007
Author: David Smidt, SeniorDiscounts.com
2006 has been an exciting year in the world of age-related discounts.
SeniorDiscounts has seen the creation of hundreds of new discounts by large and small
businesses alike and with the help of the community has uncovered thousands of new discounts
offered by businesses around the United States. Some press may say that the mature discount
is disappearing, but we say it is growing faster than ever.
SeniorDiscounts is continually working to locate new businesses that
offer discounts to the mature market. With our staff’s help and the continued support of the
community, SeniorDiscounts has added over 10,000 new business locations that offer discounts
to the older market in 2006. While many of these new discounts come from the travel, restaurant
and service industries, we are seeing new trends in discounts from the mortgage and financial
markets as well as the health and fitness industries.
SeniorDiscounts also works to create new discounts for the over 50 consumer.
While we have seen many local businesses offer new discounts in 2006, some of the notable
national companies to offer a new discount are Costco and CitiMortgage.
Costco is offering a $10 Costco Cash Card when one registers as a new member
with the discount form located on our web site.
CitiMortgage’s discount benefits include $500 off closing costs, preferred
interest rates, a pre-approval program, streamlined processing, and on-time closing guarantee.
Another company that has joined the trend is KB Toys, which now offers a
10% discount to grandparents and people over 50 years of age every Tuesday.
The press has always been a great way to let others know about the money
that can be saved with age. Last year was no different. SeniorDiscounts was featured in dozens
of articles across the nation and was interviewed on the TV network “Retirement Living TV” on
the east coast. The press is learning that there is a great interest in money-saving opportunities
for a growing older market. Most of us are living longer on a fixed income and need to save in
any way that we can. Look for more press on SeniorDiscounts and discounts available for older
Americans.
Some say that due to the large increase in the number of Americans over
the age of 50, there will be fewer discounts available to them. SeniorDiscounts is finding the
exact opposite. Businesses are competing for your business and that competition will help the
older consumer with better prices and deeper discounts.
2006 proved to be a growing year for senior discounts and we believe 2007
will be even better.
