Retail Discounts Part 2

In out last article about retail discounts we discussed how to locate
senior discounts at regional and national retail chains. We analyzed the amount of the
discount one can expect to receive, the most common age requirements as well as the typical
times and days most retailers offer their senior discount. We also listed some specific
senior discounts that can be found at various national and retail chains. Due to the number
of retail chains that offer senior discounts, we were only able to highlight a few of those
retail chains. This week we continue with breakdown of retail chains that offer discounts to
seniors.

Burke’s Outlet
Seniors 50 and older receive a 15% discount on all purchases every Monday.
One must join the free Burke’s Monday Club.

Carson Pirie Scott
Carson Pirie Scott and its affiliate stores: Boston Store, Bergners,
Herbergers, Carsons and Younkers offer discounts to customers 55 years of age or older.
They typically have one “Senior Day” a month which usually falls on a Wednesday. The
discount is 20% off if one uses the store’s proprietary credit card, 15% off if one uses
any other type of payment and 10% off their Home Store merchandise using any payment type.
There are some exclusions, which typically include Cosmetics, Fragrances and Designer
Apparel.

Factory Card and Party Outlet
Shoppers can receive 10% off every Wednesday at select locations.
Discount, age requirement and participation varies. Please call or ask at a local store
for details.

Goodwill Industries and Salvation Army
Stores that offer a discount typically give seniors 55 and older
10% to 20% off the entire purchase and the discount is usually good only on certain
days of the week, most commonly Tuesdays or Wednesdays. Contact your local Goodwill
or Salvation Army for participation, discount details and age requirements.

Goody’s Stores
Seniors 55 and older typically receive 10% to 15% off on select
days, usually a Tuesday or Wednesday. Goody’s recommends contacting a local store for
the dates of the discount, age requirements and discount amounts.

Gottschalks
Gottschalks credit card customers 55 and over receive 10%
off on purchases every Tuesday. Among other benefits seniors also receive free
customer gift wraps on items purchased on Tuesdays.

Hancock Fabrics
Seniors 55 and older receive a 10% discount on the first
Wednesday of each month.

Kohl’s Department Store
Seniors 62 and older can receive 10-15% off on select days at
participating Kohl’s locations. To locate the specific days and discounts available,
check your local paper for the Kohl’s advertisement or ask a Kohl’s associate.

Longs Drug Stores
The Longs Senior Advantage program provides its members with
discounts of up to 50% on cash purchases of prescriptions. Members also receive
10% off all Hallmark products, 10% off all Longs Brand products and 10% off Longs
One Hour Photo Processing. This program is free to join and Longs Drugs provides an
online form on their web site. Customers can also register at a local store. The age
requirement for the Longs Senior Advantage program is 60 years and older in California
and Hawaii and 55 years of and older in all other states.
