The holiday season is rapidly approaching and this year many more of us will be looking for inexpensive ways to help prepare for the festivities. Plan to be creative and shop at the right stores at the right time – and these discounts can certainly help.

Here are some of our favorite discounts on holiday decorations and party supplies:

Factory Card and Party Outlets:
Customers 55 years of age and older receive 10% off every Wednesday at most locations. The age requirement and the day of the discount can vary at some locations, so as always, it’s a good idea to call in advance or ask at your local store for details.

iParty:
iParty locations provide a 10% discount on your entire purchase, everyday, for customers 60 years of age and older. You must ask for the discount before the purchase. Age requirements can vary by location.

These stores could help you save on cards, gifts, decorations and the all important wrapping paper:

ShopKo:
ShopKo offers a 15% discount to individuals 55 and older on a selected day, typically Wednesday, during the first week of each month. Check Shopko ads in the local papers for the next senior day. There are some exclusions and the discount may not be good on all items.

Rite Aid:
Members of Rite Aid’s Living More program receive 20% off an entire purchase the first Tuesday of each month, 10% off purchases all other Tuesdays, and 10% off Rite Aid Brand products every day. The age requirement for the Rite Aid Living More programs is 55 years of age and older and it is free to join. Some restrcitions may apply.

Longs Drug Stores:
The Longs Senior Advantage program provides a 10% discount on all Hallmark products, 10% off all Longs Brand products and 10% off Longs One Hour Photo Processing. This program is free to join. Longs Drugs provides an online application on their web site, but customers can also register at a local store. The age requirement for the Longs Senior Advantage program is 55 years of and older.

Pamida Discount Centers:
Shoppers 55 and older can save 10% on most items during select discount days. Discount days are usually offered once or twice a month and usually can be found in local news flyers. You can also contact your local Pamida store for dates and details.

If you are feeling creative and you want to make some of your own gifts or decorations, these stores could provide the necessary supplies for a very low price. You can also think about re-using and recycling lightly used clothing, toys and housewares to give to your friends and family (they don’t need to know where the gifts came from):

Hancock Fabrics:
Guests 55 and older receive a 10% discount on the first Wednesday of each month at most locations.

Goodwill Industries:
Customers 55 and older receive a 10% to 20% discount at most store locations. Discount may be valid only on certain days of the week, most commonly on Wednesdays. The age requirement, discount amount and participation will vary by location, so it’s a good idea to call your local Goodwill for details.

Salvation Army:
Most locations provide discounts from 15% to 50% off to people 55 years of age and older. Discounts may only be available on certain days of the week, Wednesdays being the most popular discount day. Participation, age requirement and discount amount will vary by store location so call ahead or ask when you get there.

Savers and Value Village:
Most Savers and Value Village locations have a discount program available for shoppers 55 and older. The amount of the discount can vary from 20% to 40% off and may only be available on certain days of the week. The most common discount days are Mondays and Wednesdays. Some locations may also have a different age policy.

We hope all of you have a wonderful holiday season. Good luck with all of the preparations.
