Valentines Day is just around the corner and if you haven’t picked out that special card or gift or ordered flowers yet, we have some discounts that may be of help to you.

Cards and Gifts:

Factory Card & Party Outlets offers thousands of products to help you plan your party and celebrate your special event. Most Factory Card and Party Outlets offer a discount every Wednesday. People 55 and older can receive 10% off the purchase of most items in the store. Not all stores may participate and the age requirement and discount amount can vary, so it is a good idea to check on the store’s senior discount policy in advance.

Hallmark is a national retailer of cards, gifts, ornaments, and flowers. Many Hallmark stores also offer a senior discount. These stores are typically franchised, so it may be up to the individual owners as to whether they provide a discount or not. Most Hallmark stores will extend a 10% discount on regularly priced items to seniors 55 and older on select days. It is best to inquire in advance about a particular store’s senior discount.

Rite Aid is one of the nation’s largest drugstore chains, operating more than 5,000 stores in 31 states and the District of Columbia. Rite Aid Drug Stores provide a benefit program called Living More. Benefits for enrolled seniors include 20% off the entire purchase the first Tuesday of each month, 10% off purchases all other Tuesdays, and 10% off Rite Aid Brand products every day. The Rite Aid Living More program is free to join.

Flowers and Gifts:

One of the most popular gifts for Valentines Day is flowers. While the cheapest way to get flowers this year could be to pick them from your neighbor’s yard, we don’t recommend it. There are other ways to obtain flowers that are both safer and legal, and will still save you some money.

We have listed many online flower shops this week in the featured discounts section of our web site.

If you would rather purchase flowers this year at a local florist, you may find that many will offer a senior discount.

Discounts on flowers at local stores will typically start at 10% and some stores may only offer the discount on certain days of the week. Age requirements for these discounts usually begin around 55 years of age but many small stores may not have a specific age policy and will provide the discount as long as you know to ask for it.

Another great place to look for discounts on flowers is at your local nursery or garden center. The large garden and home center chains typically do not offer a senior discount and we suggest going to one of the local garden or home centers. Senior discounts at these stores are typically 10% to 15%. Garden center discounts are usually available to people 55 years of age and older. It is also common for these discounts to only be available on certain days of the week, usually a Tuesday or Wednesday.

Cookies and Sweets:

Mrs. Fields Cookies offers an array of gift baskets, cookie tins, cookie jars and other gift ideas. Many Mrs. Fields Cookies’ locations provide a 10% discount to people 60 years of age and older. Check with you local store, as participation and age requirement will vary by location.

Have a great Valentines Day with your loved ones.
