Medicare (Part D)

As many of you know, Medicare has introduced the new Prescription Drug Plan (Part D). Over the past weeks, we have received many phone calls and e-mails with questions about the discounts that may be available to Medicare recipients in regards to prescription medications. While we do our best to keep up to date with discount prescription drug programs, the new Medicare Part D can be very confusing for anyone.

Enrollment began on November 15 and continues through May 15 2006, while the program becomes officially available on January 1, 2006. Qualified seniors may voluntarily enroll in Part D as a supplement to their existing Medicare coverage or through a Medicare Advantage (MA) health plan.

We have researched some sites that provide useful information and explanations on how to decipher the Medicare (Part D). - Offers a free zip code search feature that conveniently allows visitors to request enrollment information from available plans. They have announced their 2006 Senior Choice Gold Awards. The award selections are based on the 2006 estimated cost-sharing comparisons conducted in over 80 cities during November 2005 by HealthMetrix Research Inc. The annual comparisons estimate the out-of-pocket costs for beneficiaries based on health status categories (health/episodic/chronic) and corresponding utilization of the most common plan benefits (physician office visits, emergency and urgent care, hospital care, prevention care, prescriptions). The comparisons identify the Medicare plans with the lowest and highest annual out-of-pocket costs based on the approved 2006 member co-payments and premiums that appear in the Medicare Personal Plan Finder national database. All of their results are available free to visitors of the web site. Click here. - The official government web site for people with Medicare. Winter Facts

The lowest temperature ever recorded was in Vostok, Antarctica on July 21, 1983. The temperature was a -129 Fahrenheit.

The wind chill temperature is the temperature that it feels like outside to people and animals. Wind chill is based on the rate of heat loss from exposed skin caused by the combined effects of wind and cold. As the wind increases, heat is carried away from the body at an accelerated rate, driving down both the skin temperature and eventually the internal body temperature.

The most snow recorded in 24 hours was 76 inches (about 193 cm), or more than 6 feet. It blanketed Silver Lake, Colorado, on April 14-15, 1921.
