Casino Discounts

This is a topic we have not touched on before, although we have some casino senior discounts listed on our web site at Casinos are known for their inexpensive food, free or discounted drinks and special room rates, but they also have many promotions for their more mature clientele as well.

Don't expect casinos to necessarily give away free chips, although some do. Instead look for discounts on the extras they provide. Discounts on transportation, food and buffets and special events are some of the most common.

Casinos like to keep their floors full of people. Thus, many casinos will provide special deals for seniors during particular times of the day and/or days of the week. Weekdays and Sundays during the middle of the day seem to be the most popular. Other casinos may provide a standard senior discount at all times, but will increase the discount during these particular times or days of the week.

If you have a favorite casino you like to visit, also check to see if it has special events or concerts specifically for older adults. These events can include entertainment, special bingo or card tournaments and even senior socials. Typically there will be reduced rates and free or discounted food and drinks.

The discounts are various. Food discounts can range anywhere from 10% to 50% off the regular price. Some casinos will even throw in a couple of dollars worth of chips to get you started when ordering a senior discounted buffet. Many places will also run special buses at discounted rates to pick up groups of seniors at designated locations. These buses may be free or at a severely reduced rate.

The age requirements typically begin around the age of 55 or 60, but don't be surprised to find them as early as 50 or as late as 62.

Trying to locate these discounts can be tricky. We have dozens of casinos listed on our site at, but if you do not see it on our site, it does not mean is doesn't exist. Some of the casino websites will have the senior discount located there, but they usually will be located in the restaurants section on the website. You can also call or ask at the reception area next time you visit.

Remember to check what other deals and specials casinos may be offering. Casinos are continually offering programs to entice people to come to their facility and these specials may be better than the senior discount.

We are always looking for more senior discounts. If you know of any casinos that offer senior discounts, let us know and you could win $100, click here.

Hurricane Facts

Hurricanes are classified into five categories, based on their wind speeds and potential to cause damage:
Category 1- Winds 74-95 miles per hour
Category 2 - Winds 96-110 miles per hour
Category 3 - Winds 111-130 miles per hour
Category 4 - Winds 131-155 miles per hour
Category 5 - Winds greater than 155 miles per hour

In 1953, the U.S. National Weather Service, which is the federal agency that tracks hurricanes and issues warnings and watches, began using female names for storms.

In 1979, both women and men's names were used. One name for each letter of the alphabet is selected, except for Q, U and Z. For Atlantic Ocean hurricanes, the names may be French, Spanish or English.

The World Meteorological Organization uses six lists in rotation. The same lists are reused every six years. The only time a new name is added is if a hurricane is very deadly or costly. Then the name is retired and a new name is chosen.
