Southwest Airlines Discount Now Online

Southwest Airlines has provided a senior discount on air travel for many years now. Although mature travelers must be 65 years of age or older to qualify for the discount, it is one of the best in the industry. Senior fares range from $49 one-way for the shortest flights to $129 one-way for the longest cross-country flights. There is no advance-purchase requirement for senior fares, so the discount is ideal for last-minute travel. Senior fare tickets are also refundable.

In the past, travelers had to call the reservations center to receive the Southwest senior fare. Southwest now allows seniors to book senior fares online at its web site.

As we said, the senior fare is great for last-minute travel and can save you a substantial amount of money compared to Southwest's regular fares offered for the same trip. If you are able to book your flights in advance, Southwest's Internet specials may be better than the senior fare. These Internet sales can range from $39 to $99 on one-way flights. Every week, usually on Tuesdays, Southwest updates the selected cities where the Internet specials are currently being offered. You can also register for an e-mail to be sent to you every week with these updates on the Southwest web site. Southwest requires a 14-day advance purchase for these flights; the fares are available on a limited basis and are nonrefundable, although you can use the fare as credit toward a future flight.

When booking your reservation on the Southwest Airlines web site, be sure to check all available fares to make sure you are getting the best rate. You may also want to compare those prices with some other web sites like Orbitz or Expedia to see if other airlines may have a better deal.

To book a senior fare online, visit the Southwest Airlines web site at and click on the reservations tab at the top of the page. There you will find a drop-down list for the number of senior travelers. Seats are subject to availability and fares do not include additional fees or surcharges. You will be required to show proof of age when checking in.

Happy Travels.
